A couple from Guernsey who were stranded in the Middle East due to the US-Israel conflict with Iran, have safely returned to the island after a "frightening experience".

Stuart Wilson and his wife Wendy were stuck in Dubai following the launch of missiles and did not know when or if they could travel home.

He said they managed to book a repatriation flight from Dubai to Gatwick on Thursday morning, which he said was "full of Brits" fleeing the conflict.

Wilson said being stuck amid the conflict "frightens the daylight out of you".

Stuart Wilson said he was "frightened to death" while stranded in the Middle East

The couple made a transit stop in Dubai en route to London following a cruise in Singapore.

Wilson said "everything closed down" and they were told to "stay in" and "stay under cover".

He said the majority of the explosions came in the morning with the noise from them "unbelievable".

Wilson said there was "one real nasty" explosion, which he thought was "really close" to their hotel.

"The rest of my life I do not want to be in a war zone, it frightens the daylight out of you."

He said he managed to book a repatriation flight to bring them home, after a few cancelled flights.

Wilson said his wife "did not feel comfortable until they were in the air away from the war zone above Saudi Arabia" and said landing back in the UK was a "good feeling".
