Sailor and cat rescued after technology fails
BBCA sailor and a cat have been rescued by emergency services after navigational equipment on board his vessel failed.
Guernsey Coastguard received a distress call on Friday at about 11:00 BST which said a sailor had been left disorientated in poor weather and low visibility.
St Peter Port all-weather lifeboat and the Channel Islands Air Search were launched to the north of Guernsey to rescue the man.
He was eventually located and crews said although the man was "cold, wet, and fatigued" he was not injured. Rescuers added the cat was also not injured.
Search mission co-ordinator Mike Harris said it was a successful rescue operation "carried out in challenging conditions".
He said it highlighted the importance of carrying emergency radio beacons.
