Money from crime reinvested into football team

An under 18s football club has received £300 from the police, which was initially seized from criminals.

Devon and Cornwall Police said the money had come from the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) which saw convicted criminals having their assets taken.

The Tiverton Town U18s club said the money would be used to purchase new equipment, including footballs.

Coach and manager Alan Findlay said the teams, which included an under 16s girls team, were an "enthusiastic group of players".

He said: "We are very pleased to be given this sum of money to buy football equipment for the team.

"This is great news as we prepare for the start of the new season."

Police said communities across Devon had received about £20,000 in POCA funding in 2023.
