Murder suspects rearrested over toddler's death
Family handoutTwo murder suspects have been rearrested on suspicion of further offences following the death of a one-year-old girl.
Jayla-Jean Mclaren died on 3 August 2025, two days after being admitted to hospital with serious injuries, police previously said.
A 31-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, both from Newport, Isle of Wight, were arrested in August on suspicion of murder and were later released on bail.
They have been rearrested on suspicion of causing or allowing the death of a child and harmful ill treatment, assault, neglect or abandonment.
The pair remain murder suspects and are in police custody, detectives added.
Police said they were called at 11:34 BST on 1 August to an address in Dairy Crest Drive, Newport, when the child was admitted to hospital.
Detectives previously said emotions were "understandably high in the local community" following the death.
They released a tribute to Jayla-Jean from her family which said: "Mummy, daddy, and nanny will always love you. Fly high princess."
Police have urged people not to speculate on the circumstances to avoid causing distress or impeding the investigation.
