A micropub in Kent is to shut after New Year's Day as the current owner says he is stepping away to spend more time with his family.

The Four Candles Alehouse in Broadstairs, run for more than 13 years by Mike Beaumont, was put up for sale in October.

Ahead of the imminent closure, Mr Beaumont said he does not know "if the Four Candles will continue as a micropub in its present form".

"A new tenant will no doubt emerge in the near future. Watch this space," he posted on social media.

Mr Beaumont says the "difficult decision" is rooted in a desire to spend more time with his family, the lack of which has been a "downside" of running the job.

"My resolution is to put that right in 2026," he wrote.

The owner says he will miss the "many wonderful friends who have made it all so worthwhile".
