Speed bumps and new speed tables for city's roads

Work is due to start to install traffic calming measures on two city streets, Hull City Council said.

In a bid to enhance road safety, the authority said three new speed tables (flatter humps with ramps either side) will be installed on Selby Street and three speed humps on Glasgow Street, where the footpaths will also be widened.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, cabinet portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure, said reducing vehicle speeds would improve safety and create "a more accessible environment for walking and cycling."

The work is expected to start on 20 October and be completed by 7 November.

The council said temporary road closures will be in place on 20 and 21 October on Glasgow Street.

The authority said there would be temporary road closures on Selby Street on 27 and 28 October.

The council said they hoped the improvements would help enforce the newly introduced 20mph speed limit.

"This scheme supports our broader vision for Hull – to build more safe and welcoming neighbourhoods, as well as make the city healthier, fairer, and more environmentally friendly," Ieronimo said.
