Flooding is expected along parts of the South West coast as Storm Ingrid moves in from the Atlantic.

The Environment Agency issued five flood warnings ahead of the next high tide covering the Tidal Fal Estuary, the stretch from Lizard Point to Gribbin Head, Gribbin Head to Rame Head, and Plymouth Sound, Wembury Bay and nearby tidal estuaries.

A flood warning means homes, roads and businesses are expected to be affected.

The Met Office has a yellow wind and rain warning in place for parts of Somerset and Devon from 02:00 GMT on Friday to 09:00 GMT on Saturday, with persistent rain falling on already saturated ground.

Forecasters say the centre of Storm Ingrid will pass close to the South West on Friday. Gusts of up to 60mph (96km/h) are possible along exposed coasts, alongside heavy rain.

Strong winds combined with high tides could lead to waves overtopping sea defences in vulnerable spots along the south coast, say forecasters. Travel disruption is also possible, particularly during the busiest parts of the day.

The Environment Agency is urging people in affected areas to stay alert, check flood warnings regularly and prepare for possible disruption. That includes moving valuables upstairs, avoiding seafronts during the stormiest conditions and taking care on coastal roads.

The windy and wet weather is likely to linger into Saturday morning before gradually easing.
