Electric motorbikes plea ahead of boy's funeral
Derbyshire PoliceThe family of a 14-year-old boy who died in a crash involving an electric motorbike and a car in Derbyshire have urged people not to attend his funeral on electric motorbikes.
Derbyshire Police said Finley Dawson was riding with a 15-year-old pillion passenger at about 20:30 GMT on 5 March when it collided with a Kia Sportage in Newbold Road, Chesterfield.
He suffered serious injuries and died the following day.
A joint statement from the family of Finley and the 15-year-old boy - who suffered serious injuries in the crash - said: "There is a reason these bikes are banned from the road, and devastatingly Finley has paid the ultimate price in losing his life."
Police publicised the family's plea on Monday, ahead of Finley's funeral later this week.
The joint statement, issued previously by the families, added: "[Finley's] friend has sustained serious injuries and has to come to terms with growing up without his best mate."
Finley's family previously said the "quick thrill" of electric motorbikes was "not worth the risk".
