Cars catch fire inside electrical substation site

A fire which broke out inside an electrical substation compound has now been extinguished.

Avon Fire and Rescue said three cars were on fire around 20m (65ft) from the substation equipment, adjacent to Lower Moor Road in Yate, South Gloucestershire.

Nearby roads were closed after the fire ignited at about 14:30 GMT on Sunday, and police advised local residents to keep their windows closed.

A fire service spokesperson said three appliances were in attendance, with four crews working to extinguish the fire until about 15:30 GMT.
