Railway renovation back on track after delay
EMRWork on a £3.3m redevelopment of Skegness railway station has resumed after the project was put on hold when the contractor pulled out.
East Midlands Railway (EMR) confirmed work had stopped in April 2025 until it found a new partner to complete it.
The train company said it was now working with Lincolnshire-based Gelder Group to see the project through.
The scheme, funded with money from the government's Town Deal fund, will see the existing station building fully refurbished, alongside the restoration of the Red Star Building - a disused space at the front of the station.
EMRAccording to EMR, the improvements would provide significantly enhanced facilities for customers, including new waiting areas, accessible toilets, Changing Places facilities and parent and baby amenities, as well as a new community cafe and retail units.
Philippa Cresswell, customer services director at EMR, said the resumption of construction was a significant milestone.
"These works will transform the station into a more welcoming, accessible and vibrant gateway to the town," she added.
Chris Baron, chairman of Connected Coast, a regeneration scheme for Skegness and Mablethorpe, said: "It is great to see the works getting under way once again."
In addition to bringing improved community facilities for local people, it would also create "a better welcome and first impression for visitors", he added.
