Two new areas have been designated Local Nature Reserves, bringing the total in Telford to 22.

The local authority said both the Priorslee Flash and the Heath Hill and Pool Hill nature reserves were important habitats, accessible by footpaths.

Telford and Wrekin Council has also extended the existing Madebrook site to include Holmer Lake and said a further five potential nature reserves were being considered.

The combined area of its 22 nature reserves is now 670 hectares, the equivalent of almost 940 football pitches.

Priorslee Flash covers an area of 33‑hectares and was originally shaped by mining activity in the area.

The council said it was now home to a "wealth of wildlife including protected bat species, a variety of waterfowl and woodland birds, hedgehogs and badgers".

Visitors can walk around the side of the pool on tarmac footpaths and boardwalks.

The Heath Hill and Pool Hill nature reserve covers an area of 15 hectares and the council said it was also home to wildlife, including bats, birds, reptiles, amphibians and badgers.

The walking routes are less accessible, it said, but "ideal for those seeking a more immersive nature experience".
