A security alert in Ballyclare has ended after police removed a viable object for further examination.

The suspicious object was discovered outside a property in the Ballylagan Road at about 09:00 GMT on Sunday morning.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said a number of temporary cordons in the area have been lifted and people evacuated from a small number of properties have been allowed to return to their homes.

They added the device was made safe before being removed for further examination.

Det Insp Hanbidge thanked people for their patience and understanding.

"We appreciate that people were out of their homes for most of Sunday as this public safety operation was carried out," the officer said.

The PSNI are urging anyone with information to contact them.
