A workshop at a kennels could become an art gallery under new plans.

Applicant Jeremy Latimer wants to revive the Lowood Arts 2001 project on the site of Lowood Kennels near Armathwaite in Cumbria.

A supporting statement said the arts organisation had previously been successful, but stopped in 2009 due to family commitments.

The applicant said Lowood Arts had won 35 national awards and sold out four shows while it was operational, adding: "Work created at Lowood is now in collections worldwide."

The organisation aims to explore Cumbria's most important artists and the legacy Cumbrian art has imprinted on the world, the Local Democracy Reporting Service said.

It is proposed that the gallery will share access with Lowood Kennels, as it did between 2002 and 2009.

The plan will be considered by Cumberland Council.
