Homes in parts of Werrington, Over and Willingham have experienced a power cut on Sunday

An unplanned power cut was affecting several homes across parts of Cambridgeshire.

Residents across Werrington in Peterborough reported a power cut in the area on Sunday evening, with homes in the villages Over and Willingham also affected in a separate outage.

UK Power Networks said it was made aware of the issue just before 18:00 GMT, adding that engineers were on site to fix a fault in electrical equipment that supplies powers to homes.

The electricity company said power was restored in Werrington by 19:29, and in the villages by 23:31.

Regarding the villages, just east of St Ives, UK Power Networks had said: "There's been an issue on our electricity network so in the interest of public safety, we've had to switch off power to 22 properties as a precaution."

It apologised for the inconvenience but had not given an estimated time on when the power could be restored.
