The site is currently a designated urban green space.

Plans for a 37-home development in Batley have been lodged with Kirklees Council.

Jones Homes and M62 Developments want to build the houses on a greenfield plot off White Lee Road, to the west of Batley town centre.

The site is designated as urban green space but is made up of scrub and overgrown grassland, and described as "poorly maintained" by supporting documents.

Developers say the scheme includes a "generous amount of public open space" in order to "lessen any visual impact" and "enhance the biodiversity of the proposal".

According to plans, the site would accessible via White Lee Gardens, another housing development built by the same applicants.

The properties are due to be a mixture of detached and semi-detached homes, with between two and four bedrooms.

Each property would have a private garden to the rear and a minimum of two parking spaces.

The existing estate's main road would be extended to serve the new development.

A statement on behalf of the developer said the project would be a "positive addition" to the area, providing "improved access to green space".

"These spaces will provide recreation and amenity space for future residents of the scheme, and existing residents within the surrounding area," it stated.

The landscaping proposals include potential space for allotments, recreation and planters.

The council is expected to make a decision by 7 May, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
