Homes evacuated and road closed after gas leak in village
BBCHomes have been evacuated and a road has been closed after a gas leak in a North Lanarkshire village.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were called to Chryston after reports of bins on fire on Cumbernauld Road and a strong smell of gas.
Police closed the A80 at its junction with Cumbernauld Road and Knowe Road, and people have been urged to avoid the area.
The fire service sent three vehicles to the scene and the last one left at about 16:10.
SGN workers were on the scene at a cordoned off property on Cumbernauld Road.
