Crushed car to be used to warn fly-tippers
Calderdale CouncilA car which was seized and crushed after it was used to illegally dump rubbish is to be displayed as a warning to potential fly-tippers.
Calderdale Council said the vehicle would be put on show at "key locations" around the area.
The authority said it had stepped up efforts to identify people who dump waste illegally and punish them with fixed penalty notices of up to £1,000.
Officers said the crushed vehicle was one of more than 20 seized by the council in the last year.
According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, cabinet member Danielle Durrans told a council meeting: "The crushed vehicle will be placed at key locations across Calderdale to demonstrate our zero-tolerance approach to fly-tipping."
She also said council officers from its partnership intelligence team, who are usually desk based, have been assisting the front-line staff, donning high-vis and collecting waste from hotspots, whilst also identifying any possible leads found in dumped rubbish for enforcement action.
