Strikes due to start on Boxing Day have been suspended, a union says

Further strikes by workers at London Luton Airport have been called off after a union said an "improved offer" had been made.

The Unite union said action by EasyJet check-in and baggage handling staff employed by DHL Group at the airport in Bedfordshire will no longer take place between 26 and 28 December.

About 200 workers had walked out between 19 and 22 December after rejecting the company's offer of a 4.5% pay rise, it added.

DHL said after "positive talks" with the union, it accepted its "revised pay offer".

Workers who were Unite members had voted to take the earlier action.

Unite had raised concerns over other DHL workers at London Gatwick Airport earning about £3 extra an hour for the same job.

The union said it had worked with DHL and the conciliation service Acas on the new offer.

Jeff Hodge, a Unite regional officer, said: "Following negotiations, DHL returned to the table with an improved offer to our members.

"We've suspended strike action to allow them to have their say on whether to accept it."

A DHL Supply Chain spokesperson said, "Following positive talks with Unite, we can confirm that the union has accepted our revised pay offer and called off its planned industrial action at our London Luton Airport operation."
