Historic pub's owners win illuminated sign battle
GoogleA 17th Century pub will be able to install an illuminated sign to its front elevation despite a council initially rejecting the proposal.
The owners of The Rising Sun Inn in Castle Street, Reading, had the plan rejected by Reading Borough Council, who said it would have been "harmful" to the Grade II listed building.
But the Planning Inspectorate overturned the objection last month after it said the sign would not be "overly prominent" and "largely sensitive to the building's historic aesthetics".
The Rising Sun Inn has been officially listed as historically significant since 1957 and sits on the ancient route between London and the West Country.
