Long delays on motorway as traffic held

Drivers are being urged to avoid the M5 amid long delays approaching the Avonmouth Bridge near Bristol.

The motorway is currently shut from junction 19 for Portishead to J18 where the M5 meets the M49.

Motorway cameras show northbound queues going back as far as the J17 Cribbs Causeway exit to the north, and almost as far as junction 21 at Weston-super-Mare.

National Highways said the motorway was closed due to a "police-led incident".
