Police are warning islanders to lock their vehicles after the theft of two cars

Police are warning islanders to lock vehicle doors after the theft of two cars on New Year's Day for "joyriding".

States of Jersey Police said a blue Audi and a silver Honda Jazz were reported missing from an address in St Saviour.

The Honda was found in Vallee des Vaux but the Audi has not been located, said police.

Officers believe the thefts were "carried out by a small group of young people taking cars for joyriding".

Police warned people to lock their vehicles, particularly in St Saviour and Five Oaks, where an increase in thefts has been reported.

A police spokesperson said: "There is a risk to islanders, and not securing a car properly could invalidate its insurance if it were to be taken, damaged or cause damage.

"Although we live on a very safe island, there are individuals who choose to commit crimes, let's not make it easy for them."
