A fundraising page has been set up for a Gatwick Airport bus driver who was injured when his vehicle hit a police car.

Jack Garrod was driving a double-decker bus just before 05:00 GMT on Sunday when he crashing with a parked police car.

Garrod's colleague and union member, Steve Robinson, set up the GoFundMe page to support the father-of-two's rehabilitation on Tuesday, and it had reached about half of it's £4,500 target by Wednesday.

Robinson said: "Instead of focusing solely on recovery, he is worrying about how he's going to pay household expenses, and how to continue providing for his family."

After undergoing surgery to treat his injuries, doctors told Garrod to expect months of rehabilitation and healing.

Robinson said this also placed an "enormous financial strain" on him and his family.

There were no passengers on the bus and no officers in the police car when the crash happened on an approach road to the South Terminal, Sussex Police said.

The police car was parked while officers dealt with separate incident in which a driver had failed to stop.
