A man has been released under investigation following the death of a pedestrian who was fatally struck by a van.

Emergency services were called to Humberstone Road - at the junction with Spinney Hill Road - just before 07:30 GMT on Thursday after the pedestrian, a man in his 60s, was hit by a blue Volkswagen Transporter.

East Midlands Ambulance Service treated the pedestrian but he was pronounced dead a short while later, said Leicestershire Police.

A 57-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving, has since been released under investigation. The force had previously said the arrested man was 61.

Several roads were closed while inquiries took place and investigations are continuing, police added.

Officers have appealed for witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.
