Crews called to large fire at industrial estate
A large fire at an industrial estate that forced the closure of nearby railway lines has now been scaled down, the fire service said.
At its height, 13 fire engines were sent to Hathernware industrial estate, off Rempstone Road in Sutton Bonington, near the Leicestershire border, after reports were received at 10:48 BST on Wednesday.
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters remained at the scene, which involved buildings, timber and trailers, but the fire had been contained and rail lines had reopened.
East Midlands Railway (EMR) said "significant disruption continues" on the network, which was likely to continue until the end of the day.
Jeff KnightThe fire service confirmed smoke had caused local disruption and impacted train lines in the area.
In an earlier statement, it said: "There was a significant smoke plume that forced the closure of nearby railway lines due to visibility issues and the threat from exploding cylinders.
"Please also be aware if you live locally, and you have heard some loud bangs, that this is the cylinders currently involved in the fire - do not be alarmed."
EMR said fire next to the tracks at Sutton Bonington had disrupted services because debris had fallen on to the line.
It said trains were affected on the London St Pancras/Nottingham/Derby/Sheffield/ Leicester/Loughborough/Nottingham regional route.
"We apologise for any delay to your journey," it added.
Crews from Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire attended the blaze.
