Large fire breaks out at former mill

The fire broke out at the building in Townley Street

Firefighters have been tackling a large fire at a former mill near a town centre in Greater Manchester.

They arrived at the scene after the fire broke out in Townley Street, Middleton at about 05:50 BST, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said.

Residents living nearby have been told to keep doors and windows shut so they do not inhale smoke coming from the site.

There have been no reports of any injuries.
