A woman is missing and a man has been taken to hospital after a serious blaze at a house in Aberdeenshire.

Fire crews were called to the property in the Seatown area of Gardenstown just before 05:00.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said four appliances were called out to tackle the incident.

Police said one woman, who was in the house, is missing and a man was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment.

Emergency services remain at the scene and officers say inquiries are ongoing.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We received a call at 04:57 to attend an incident near Harbour Road, Gardenstown, Aberdeenshire.

"We dispatched two ambulances and two special operations response teams to the scene. We transported one patient to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary."
