Family 'devastated' after mum hit by taxi in Ibiza

The brother of a woman who is in intensive care after being hit by a taxi in Ibiza said he is "devastated" but that her condition is now stable.

Ebony Cordingley, 26, and her friend Lauren Holmes, 27, from Bradford, were on holiday on the Spanish island when they were involved in the collision in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Kyle Marsden said: "As a family, we are all absolutely devastated. It was not the news that I wanted to wake up to. She didn't deserve it."

Ms Cordingley's condition was initially critical, but after hearing the news that she had improved, Mr Marsden said: "She has had an extremely tough life. She's resilient like you wouldn't believe. Her strength is admirable."

Doctors have told the family of mother-of-three Ms Cordingley, who lives in Shipley, that she sustained a bilateral lower limb fracture with associated open wounds requiring emergency surgery.

Additional injuries include multiple rib fractures, bleeding on the brain and a punctured lung.

Ms Holmes, who has two children, suffered two broken legs, a broken arm, a fractured spine, broken ribs and a punctured lung in the crash and is currently in intensive care at a different hospital.

Her mother, Bernice Ramsden, 47, said: "She's stable, but she's waiting for an operation."

She added: "I just want her home in the UK with me."

Her family said they have been told it would cost £33,000 to take her home for further treatment - and are fundraising the cash.

Ms Cordingley's family has also started a fundraiser to help with the costs of being by her side in Ibiza, potential medical expenses and long-term support for her sons.

A spokesperson for the Foreign Office said: "We are supporting two British nationals who have been hospitalised in Spain, and are in contact with the local authorities"
