Almost 70% of respondents to the first consultation were in favour of creating a parish council in Pyrford

A second consultation on plans for a new parish council in Surrey has opened.

The proposed council, which would serve Pyrford, near Woking, received support in an initial consultation last month.

Residents are now being asked for views on details such as the number of councillors, responsibilities and governance. The consultation runs until 28 February.

The leader of Woking Borough Council (WBC), Ann-Marie Barker, said it was "an important opportunity for residents to help shape the practical details" of any new parish council.

If created, this elected body would provide certain services in the Pyrford Neighbourhood Area, including maintaining open spaces, managing allotments, and commenting on planning applications.

Of 446 responses to the first consultation, 68% were in favour, while 27% said opposed it.

WBC agreed recommendations last month for a council with 10 elected members and no separate wards.

If approved, the first election could take place in May 2027, with polls every four years.
