Lakeside plan aims to make area a 'vibrant' spot

Improved play facilities, a new cafe and better seating layouts are included in plans to transform an area next to a park lake.

North Tyneside Council says proposed work at Killingworth Lakeside Park includes many ideas put forward by residents as part of a recent consultation.

Plans also feature new walking and cycling routes, and members of the public are being asked to choose a nature trail from a list of options.

The changes will transform the area into a "vibrant, welcoming" destination, according to the local authority.

Requests were made for play equipment to be "more exciting" and of interest to children of all ages, with pupils from Bailey Green Primary School sharing their ideas for climbing areas, slides and a sensory play area.

Councillor Carl Johnson, deputy mayor for North Tyneside and cabinet member for regeneration, culture and economic development, said the site was award-winning but "ready for some new investment".

He added: "We have listened carefully to what local people of all ages told us and we're looking forward to hearing further feedback on the proposed designs."

Feedback sessions will be held at the park on 11, 22 and 27 September, while a survey is also available on the Our North Tyneside Voice website.
