The main diversion route for the M6 while work is carried out has been blocked following a collision.

Cumbria Police said the crash happened on the A6 between Hackthorpe and Thrimby at about 15:35 GMT.

It is the main diversion route while the M6 is closed between junctions 39 at Shap and 40 near Penrith this weekend for the demolition of Clifton railway bridge.

"The road is currently blocked and emergency services are at the scene," Cumbria Police said.

"Police and partner agencies are working to get the diverted northbound traffic moving as soon as possible."
