Boy in critical condition after being hit by car in west Belfast

An 11-year-old boy is in a critical condition in hospital after he was hit by a car in west Belfast.

The incident happened on the Shankill Road near the junction with Boundary Street at 19:25 GMT on Saturday.

A 34-year-old man was arrested at the scene and has been released on bail pending further police enquiries.

Police say their enquiries are continuing, and have appealed for anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have recorded footage which could assist with their investigation, to contact them.

The Shankill Road was closed for a number of hours but has since re-opened.
