Drink-drive arrest after police pursuit crash

A driver has been arrested after a car being pursued by police in Derby crashed into another vehicle, leaving a passenger with serious injuries.

Derbyshire Police said it was called at 10:50 GMT on Thursday to reports of a blue BMW 1 Series driving dangerously in the car park of Asda in Sinfin.

Officers attended but lost sight of the vehicle before it was located in Porter Road. A pursuit followed and a short time later the BMW collided with a Toyota RAV4 near the junction of Manor Road and Burton Road.

The force said the BMW driver was detained on suspicion of drink-driving after being Tasered and he remained in police custody.

A passenger in the Toyota was taken to hospital with serious injuries, it added.

Manor Road remains closed between Constable Lane and Burton Road, police said, with drivers advised to avoid the area.

Officers appealed for anyone with dashcam footage of the BMW to contact the force.
