BAE buys former GSK drugs factory
Getty ImagesA pharmaceutical factory which ceased production earlier this year has been bought by Britain's biggest defence firm.
BAE Systems said it had acquired the site in Ulverston, Cumbria, from GSK (formerly known as GlaxoSmithKline).
It said the land offered "many redevelopment opportunities" and it expected plans to be finalised next year.
Site director Phil Wilson previously said he was proud of GSK Ulverston's record of "delivering medicines to around two billion patients".
The pharmaceutical giant ended production at the site earlier this year.
It opened more than 75 years ago and most recently had been producing the antibiotic Zinnat for the Swiss-owned firm Sandoz.
