Arrest made after teen and man injured in stabbing

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a teenager and a man were left seriously injured in a stabbing in South Yorkshire.

The 17-year-old boy and 42-year-old man were stabbed at a property on Regent Street in Barnsley on Saturday at about 13:40 BST.

They were taken to hospital, where police said they both remained in a "critical but stable condition".

A 42-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of the offence along with possession of a bladed article and remained in police custody.

Three areas of the town centre were closed for officers to carry out investigations, though two have since reopened, officers added.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said a knife had been recovered and that it was believed to have been an "isolated incident".
