Lee Chadbourne was described by police as a "nasty and manipulative individual"

A man who swung a wine bottle at a woman's head before subjecting her to a sustained attack at a hotel in Leeds has been jailed.

Lee Chadbourne punched the victim in her head, neck and body before kicking her in the head, causing a tear in the back of her eye which required laser treatment.

Leeds Crown Court was told how the 38-year-old, from Doncaster, then left the hotel, leaving the injured woman to seek help from staff.

He was jailed for five years and three months after pleading guilty to grievous bodily harm and perverting the course of justice.

British Transport Police, which carried out the investigation, said while Chadbourne was on bail for the attack, he began intimidating and threatening the victim and offered cash in exchange for her dropping the charges.

PC Andy Jones said Chadbourne, of Huntingdon Road, was a "nasty and manipulative individual".

He added: "This was a cowardly and vicious attack carried out by an extremely violent man.

"I want to commend the victim's bravery in reporting what happened and supporting our investigation despite Chadbourne's best efforts to intimidate her into dropping the charges.

"It is testament to her character that she refused to allow him to control her and instead assisted us in bringing him to justice."
