Bert Baker is due to be sentenced at Bristol Crown Court

A 20-year-old man has admitted throwing a corrosive substance at a teenage boy.

Bert Baker threw the substance at the boy on Guildford Road in the Brislington area of Bristol on 11 August 2025, with the victim needing hospital treatment.

Baker, of of Wootton Road in St Anne's, was later charged with throwing a corrosive substance with intent to harm or maim, and having a corrosive substance in a public place.

He pleaded guilty to both charges at Bristol Crown Court earlier and is due to be sentenced at the same court on 7 May.

Telling Baker to "grow up", His Honour Judge Lambert asked for a psychological report to be prepared to find out "what underlying difficulties" he has ahead of the sentencing hearing.

Amjad Mahmood, who runs The Gilmore shop in Guildford Road, said he was serving behind the counter at about 10:00 BST on the day of the incident when a "youth came in" and said there had been "an acid attack" outside.

Mahmood said: "Within five minutes the ambulance was here, fire crew and the police."

Mahmood said the shop was later closed for several hours while investigations took place outside, with police urging everyone to stay inside.

"I was just shocked.

"The young boy who got attacked - I did see him to see if he was ok. His face was all red," Mahmood added.
