Nottinghamshire Police has seen a 44% rise in vehicle interference

Drivers have been warned not to leave any Christmas presents or festive valuables in their cars after a rise in vehicle interference.

Nottinghamshire Police said it had seen a 44% rise in crimes in the past year where offenders had tampered with cars and their contents.

The force also added it had seen an increase in vehicle interference across most of its neighbourhood policing areas.

Officers are now advising locals to make it "as difficult as possible" for criminals over the festive period.

Insp Sam Birch, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "We're urging people to be vigilant and make it as difficult as possible for criminals to target their vehicles, especially in the run-up to Christmas.

"Having your car broken into and losing your things to thieves can be very distressing, however, there are a few simple steps you can take to keep your vehicle and what's in it safe.

"When shopping, you should ensure your vehicle is locked and any valuables left in cars are removed from sight."

The force is also appealing for people to park cars on a driveway or in a well-lit and secure area.
