Pier building shut over structural concerns
North Yorkshire CouncilA building in a seaside town has been closed and its tenants moved out over structural concerns.
Engineers visited building No1 on Scarborough's West Pier on Thursday and raised concerns about part of its exterior, including its gable ends, according to North Yorkshire Council.
The authority said all tenants were being contacted and "alternative arrangements" were being discussed ahead of further investigations next week.
Gary Fielding, corporate director of resources, said the building would be cordoned off until they were satisfied there was "no further risk".
The premises include eight units which are used as offices and studios. Two are currently vacant and one is home to North Yorkshire Council's beach superintendent, the council said.

Public toilets in the building will also be closed with alternative facilities at Vincent Pier and St Nicholas Gardens.
The property forms part of a major regeneration project which the authority said aimed to "breathe new life into the heart of Scarborough's South Bay."
Fielding added: "This discovery underlines the importance of investing now to create facilities that are safe, modern and fit for purpose for years to come."
