Force referred to watchdog over missing man probe
PA MediaLeicestershire Police has referred itself to the police watchdog over its response to a missing person report.
Shahab Uddin was reported missing from the Loughborough area to the force in the early hours of 13 August.
Officers discovered the 40-year-old's body near the A6 in the town on Thursday following a search operation involving multiple agencies.
Now the force says following an "internal review" into its initial response to the missing person report, it had made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
An IOPC spokesperson said: "We have received a referral from Leicestershire Police and will make a decision on what further action, if any, may be required from the IOPC in due course."
Police said they were treating Mr Uddin's death as "unexplained" and an investigation into the circumstances is ongoing.
