Police were called to Lewsey Sports Park and Pool in Luton after reports of gunshots

A further two men have been arrested after reports that gunshots were heard near a leisure centre.

Bedfordshire Police was called to Lewsey Sports Park and Pool in Pastures Way, Luton, at about 22:00 GMT on Friday, 19 December.

A man in his 20s was arrested on Monday on suspicion of attempted murder and a teenager has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder and possession of a firearm. They both remained in police custody.

Two men, both in their 20s, who were previously arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and conspiracy to murder, have been charged with attempted wounding with intent.

The force said a fifth man arrested last week on suspicion of attempted murder has been released on bail with strict conditions attached as inquiries continued.

Police confirmed no-one was injured in the incident.

Det Insp Patrick Allerton said: "Our priority is to protect the public and prevent any further violence, and we are continuing to pursue every line of inquiry to establish exactly what happened, supported by ongoing patrols in the area.

"Any incident involving a firearm is extremely serious, and we are determined to stop the harm and fear that this type of crime causes within our communities."
