Over 140 school parking fines issued in one month

One hundred and forty two fines were issued to drivers for illegal parking outside schools in North East Lincolnshire in January.

Lincolnshire Council (NELC) said the fines, for stopping on the yellow zig-zag lines, were issued at seven schools.

CCTV cameras were set up outside school entrances after the council said too many people were parking dangerously.

Councillor Ron Shepherd said the measures have led to a "visible reduction" in poor parking.

The initiative was first launched at Signhills Academy in Cleethorpes in September 2022 before being expanded to Old Clee Primary Academy the following December.

The schools involved in the scheme are:

• Old Clee Primary Academy, Cleethorpes
• Laceby Acres Primary School, Grimsby
• Scartho Junior Academy, Grimsby
• Signhills Academy, Cleethorpes
• Waltham Leas Primary Academy, Waltham
• Queen Mary Avenue Infant and Nursery School, Cleethorpes
• Welholme Academy, Grimsby

Drivers caught stopping in the restricted zones are fined £70, discounted to £35 if paid within 14 days.

Signs alerting motorists were posted before the cameras were installed and warning letters rather than fines were issued for two weeks after the cameras started recording.
