Women guilty of assisting hit-and-run killer

Two women have been found guilty of helping a man jailed last year for a hit-and-run killing try to evade capture.

Andrew Flamson died after he was hit by a car following a row about a drugs debt on Grosvenor Road, Coventry, in July 2022.

The car's driver, Ashley Donald, was given a life sentence for murder last June, with three passengers also sentenced for manslaughter.

Bethany Donohoe, 24, of Albany Road, Coventry, and Faye Gowdy, 44, of Carpenter Road, Birmingham, were convicted of assisting Donald on Monday at Warwick Crown Court.

Mr Flamson died in hospital from head injuries three days after he was knocked down by Donald on 12 July 2022.

Passengers Samuel Henneberry, Carl Tomlinson and Callum Ayre, all from Coventry, were also jailed last June for 15 years, 13 years and 12 years respectively in connection with the offence.

Their trial heard how the men went out armed with a baseball bat and wooden pole to target Mr Flamson after an argument over a debt of about £400.

The trial of Donohoe and Gowdy started on 18 June and heard the two women, Donald's girlfriend and his mother, attempted to assist him by impeding his apprehension.

Sentencing for the pair has been adjourned until 12 August.
