Six fire engines attended a large fire at a recycling centre on Saturday.

Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to the Nationwide Metal Centre plant in Cadwell Lane, Hitchin, Hertfordshire on Saturday shortly after 16:00 BST.

Residents were advised to shut their windows because of the large amount of smoke.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "Some crews are expected to remain into the night damping down and extinguishing remaining smouldering fires."

It thanked the public for their cooperation and support.

This is the third fire at the site in the past eight months with previous incidents in December and February.
