Guernsey's rate of inflation has been slowing in recent months

Guernsey's rate of inflation slowed to 3.3% between June and September, according to the latest figures from the States of Guernsey.

The figure, based on the Retail Price Index (RPI), is down from 5.1% a year earlier and 0.6 percentage points lower than in June 2025.

Housing costs remained a key driver of inflation, with mortgages and rents continuing to increase.

Tobacco prices also rose by 11.1%, while costs associated with electricity climbed by 4.9% in three months.

While the figures point to easing inflationary pressure overall, the cost of everyday necessities continues to rise for many islanders.

The Household Cost Indices (HCI), which tracks inflation across different household types, showed the steepest impact among renters and partial owners who faced a 4.8% rise, the highest of all groups. High-income households saw the lowest increase at 3.2%.

The increasing cost of living was identified by many voters at June's general elections as one of the key issues.

Guernsey's top political committee Policy and Resources has proposed an increase of £600 to personal income tax allowances, to support people with the cost of living.
