Man charged after driving arrest causes bomb scare
Getty ImagesA man has been charged after a police search led to the discovery of what was thought to be an explosive device, which meant nearby houses had to be evacuated.
Police initially arrested Ian Mitchell, 47, from Nantwich, following reports of dangerous driving in Crewe.
While he was in custody a search was carried out of an address in Nantwich, and officers discovered what was believed to be a small improvised explosive device, which was assessed and deemed to be safe.
Mitchell was charged with failing to provide specimen for analysis, breaching a sexual harm prevention order, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and possessing a knife in a public place.
He is set to appear at Crewe Magistrates Court on 4 February 2027.
