A 15-year-old boy has been arrested after a bomb threat was made to a school.

Cambridgeshire Police were called to Ernulf Academy in Eynesbury, St Neots, at 08:45 GMT on Wednesday.

The force said the school implemented its emergency procedures as a precaution. Principal Thomas Fisher said the arrested boy was "not of a child at the school".

The teenager from Cambridgeshire was arrested on suspicion of malicious communications and was bailed until 3 May with "conditions not to enter or go within the location of the school".

In a letter sent to parents, Fisher thanked "staff and children for the way in which they have conducted themselves during a challenging 24 hours".

He confirmed the school's "assessment of risk was centred" on the bomb threat.

"We did not give this detail sooner because we were waiting for the police to confirm that it would not interfere with their investigation, so I am happy to have that confirmed," he added.

"The arrest is not of a child at the school. I am unable to share more at this stage."

Sgt Rob Streater, from the St Neots Neighbourhood Team, said officers would be on foot patrol on Wednesday and Friday and were available to speak to anyone with concerns.

He added: "On behalf of the school and local police, we would like to thank parents and members of the community for their support."
