Plans to convert former pub into flats approved
GooglePlans to redevelop a former pub in Long Eaton into flats have been given the go-ahead.
Erewash Borough Council has approved a planning application from Libertas Homes Ltd to convert the former Foenix Lounge Bar and Club, in Tamworth Road.
The proposal is for the site to house a commercial unit, with a pair of three-bedroom maisonettes and a two-bedroom flat created upstairs.
In September, plans to turn the site into a 13-bedroom house in multiple occupancy (HMO) were turned down by the council, with a planning inspector dismissing an appeal against the authority's decision in September.
According to plans, the site was "in need of refurbishment" and the proposed redevelopment would provide "much-needed" family homes.
"The reuse and refurbishment of this building will significantly enhance the character and vitality of this part of Tamworth Road, bringing a long-vacant site back into active and productive use," a report submitted by developers said.
The previous HMO application was refused by the council over concerns about the planned communal space for residents.
Planning documents state the previous proposed development was also deemed inadequate in relation to flood risk.
"In response, the current proposal represents a fundamental change in both the use and nature of the development," the new application states.
"The revised scheme no longer proposes an intensive HMO use, but instead introduces three self-contained residential dwellings, that will provide much-needed family accommodation within a sustainable town centre location."
