A total of 125 trees have been planted to mark the end of Guernsey Electricity's 125th anniversary year.

A mix of native species including apple, pear, lime and hawthorn were planted at a site near Bordeaux, bosses said.

The utility firm said staff had been supporting local charities through the year and it hoped the latest initiative would "make a lasting contribution to the environment for generations to come".

"Employees have been committed to helping our local community through a range of charitable and voluntary activities, with a particular focus on sustainability and the environment," said Christian Lacey-Brennan, head of communications and engagement.

Local conservation group Guernsey Trees for Life (GTFL) worked with the company to plant the trees.

GTFL technical officer Andy McCutcheon said: "Not only does this collaborative effort mark a special anniversary, but it leaves a special legacy which will benefit the environment, for years to come."
