An injured caver was rescued from an entrance shaft of a cave system in the Peak District.

A rescue operation was carried out on Saturday afternoon at the Flower Pot entrance to the 60m (197ft) Carlswark Cavern near Stoney Middleton in Derbyshire.

A caver suffered a suspected lower leg fracture, said Derbyshire Cave Rescue Organisation, which administered pain relief and splinting underground before hauling the casualty "up the awkward entrance pipe".

The cave rescue team, which deployed 14 volunteers, then handed the patient over to East Midlands Ambulance Service.
