New stone shop front plans approved by council

A planning application has been approved to restore a Grade II listed Bradford city centre building which would see an unauthorised store front replaced with a more sympathetic one.

The application, submitted by Jamal Ashraf, will see a qualified heritage stonemason hand carve and install a replacement stone capital into 6 Rawson Place.

The new front would be carved using "locally sourced natural stone'' that would have the matching ''colour, texture and durability of the original", councillors were told.

Bradford Council approved the application, with conservation officer Jon Ackroyd saying the use of professional stonemason gave "sufficient certainty the repair will be undertaken correctly".

According to Local Democracy Reporting Service, Rawson Place will become one of the main shopping streets for the new City Village housing development of 1,000 homes, built on the site of the former Kirkgate Shopping Centre.
